The title is taken from an advertising slogan of a well-known furniture multinational, the slogan itself contains a contradiction.
The granite block for sculpting the head was extracted from an abandoned quarry. The same quarry where Master Mateo supposedly extracted the stone
for the Portico of Glory in Santiago´s Cathedral between 1168 and 1188.
I decided to sculpt the head using only manual tools, this attitude in the realization of the work was to me necessary to experience the immense abyss that exists between "making oneself" an artistic object and buying an object of mass production.
As a whole, it´s like an emulsion of water and oil, a brutal contrast of attitudes where it´s not clear what place each element occupies or should occupy, the work ironic about the meaning of art and its usefulness.
