Whether it evokes rest or death, there is never any artifice in the sculpted figure that lies, which is why few figurative sculptures work as well
as those representing lying figures. Sculpture lends itself like no other medium to represent stillness. It may be the most appropriate medium
to represent death, at least it was for many cultures of the past that gave sculpture the virtue of keeping the dead alive.
In this small work I take up again the theme of the medieval sarcophagus, the sculpture capable of welcoming ,of keeping something inside as a
container of life and death, in this case the surprise is in the adaptation to its model, the sarcophagus becomes in this work a tiny stone
capsule in which to contain a universal plastic icon.
The size and shape imposed by the doll represented do not make the sarcophagus a toy. The stone with which it is made also refers us
to its origin. This work could only be made in granite and its selection for this project was fundamental, its grain is very fine
to be able to portray the reduced scale of the doll as accurately as possible.
